Rat On Wheels

We went to a museum today and saw several paintings by Breughel and his son. The paintings were of a Judgment Day theme, featuring creatures similar to those in Bosch's Garden of Earthly Delights; humanoid frogs, humanoid crabs, fish and people in various states of torment. Rarely am I so haunted by paintings, but I can't stop thinking about those. There's something both sinister and comical about them. Plus, I love how imaginative they are, something the painters could only get away with four hundred years ago because of the Biblical theme. I can't help but think the artists were having fun painting those canvases, and I keep envisioning those creatures flitting past the corner of my eyes and scuttling at my feet. A few minutes ago, while sitting on the couch, I heard a scooter drive by and in my mind's eye I pictured the source of the noise as a six foot long, demonic rat with wheels instead of feet, whizzing down the street.
