I ended up drinking a special kind of rum with a
sailor named Paco. "I'm Paco the sailor man -
peep, peep!" he sang by way of introduction.
Paco told me what he likes about sailing is how
it connects you with all the elements, "The boat
is earth, the sea is water, the sails have wind,
and the fire comes from your soul."
I found people's expressiveness refreshing after the reservedness of most Belgians and Americans. People touch each other more in Spain too, they're not afraid to bump into you or to place a hand on your arm during conversation for emphasis. Also, if someone wants to look at you in public, they just go ahead and look at you instead of playing the "I'm gonna check you out while you are looking the other way" game. |
