Last night Jef and I sat outside in the grass and watched the
latest storm come up from Seattle. Lightning strikes, bright
and veiny, streaked across the horizon every 3 or 4 seconds.
At one point, I looked up and saw a coyote, perfectly silhouetted
by our neighbor's porch light. It sized us up for a moment,
then trotted off silently. Although I've never heard of a person
being attacked by a coyote, we didn't stay outside
much longer.
Around midnight the storm hit Anacortes. Jef and I had a slumber
party on the floor in our front room so we wouldn't miss the light show.
Although I tried to keep my eyes open to see every flash, I ended up
drowsing on and off 'til 3 a.m. as the sudden summer storm mixed with
my dreams.
